GIS for Government Building Solutions
The Federal government may be in the forefront of organizations improving their real estate and energy management practices as a result of a series of presidential executive orders and congressional legislation.
One result of those actions has been the widespread adoption by federal agencies of enterprise Geographic Information System (GIS) software to support the real property lifecycle, says Dennis Smith, Federal Government Business Development Manager at leading GIS developer ESRI.
"GIS is core technology that is used to build information systems that support many workflows and application domains, facilities management being chief among them," said Smith. "GeoDatabase data models allow multiple stakeholders to interact and share geographical data, analysis, and results. No other system provides total scalability from global portfolios down to individual assets such as equipment in a room. It allows users to understand and analyze their assets across multiple buildings, campuses and sites around the world."
